HMCS ST Laurent

HMCS ST LAURENT Sept 22nd, 2011
By

Montreal may be nicer than Toronto but I'm not sure,
Unfortunately I can't speak French but I'd like to take a tour,
We picked up the HMCS St Laurent from there long ago,
Then Halifax, Key West, Havana and Washington in a row.

Where are the shipmates I worked with way back then?
Escort the Royal Yacht Britannia with the Queen and her men,
All the way to Stockholm – what a beautiful place and clean,
And our captain, Commander Timbrell was always quite keen.

Now I wish that the navy had taught me how to speak French
The system even back then, couldn't be changed -- it was entrenched
They taught the Quebecois how to speak English real good,
They became bilingual but not me, which I never understood.
